I have a Volvo Penta 270 V8 1.61 gear ratio. It is leaking down the upper seal (Drive Shaft Bellows had oil it it). I also have a 275 outdrive, but it is off a 4 cylinder engine but does not leak. Can I take and swap the upper gear assembly from the 275 (even though it is for a 4 cylinder engine) and put it on the 270? Isn't the difference in gear ratio's on the lower assembly? And do I have to do the shimming proceedure if I do. My only concern with resealing the 270 upper section is it specifies that if any parts are replaced you must reshim. As I have never done this I am worried about messing it up. Thanks
