Volvo penta 280 / 285 switch

I have 86 bayliner 2850 with with 260 and a v/p 280 drive that needs replacing and i found a 285 dive. What is the differences between the two and would it fit?

Should work fine.

Just make sure the new drive has the same gear ratio as your drive.

Thanks, Does anyone actually know what the difference is? It is so hard to find info on these drives.
