How to properly select volvo penta shift cable

I am in need of a new shift cable for my volvo penta 280 drive. How do I select the proper cable? Is it by boat length, brand, etc?

I would think it would be cable length. If there's a dealer that sells you brand boat they may look it up by boat/length.
Match the cable to your year drive, select a length, I would think that would be it.

The cable length should be marked on the old cable. It is a style 33C.
