Volvo Penta Lube Plug Stripped?

I was changing the lube in my Volvo Penta (SX-A) outdrive today. After filling the outdrive I put the plug in and hand tightened with a screwdriver. I then used a 3/8 socket and started to give it that extra nudge to insure it was tight when it appeared to strip. The screw now freely turns and I really did not put enough force into it to make that occur. I am very concerned at this point and have no clue as to how to fix the issue. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

they should only be hand tight. yes, you may have stripped the drive hole. pull the plug and inspect.

you will have to drain the drive, and find a tap for the next size drain plug available. you will have to coat the drill and tap with grease to hold onto any of the chips.

There are no "next size" drain plugs to tap it too. You need a new housing or whatever it is that is stripped. The are also way to thin for Heli-coils. Besides, with all the drilling and tapping, you will end up with metal in the drive if you try a "Fix" without taking it apart.
