I have a 2003 Crownline with twin 3.0 GLM volvo engines. One of engines does not pump water with rabbit ears and therefore overheats but the same engine does not overheat when the boat is in the water. I disconnected the raw water hose and put the hose in a bucket of water and it will then pump ok. Guess the problem must be in the outdrive but have no idea what to do. Any ideas??

Have you checked the impeller? It could be weak and the air around the muffs is just too much for that engine to overcome.

If there's a flush hose on the engine make sure the cap is tight,if it's loose the pump will suck air and won't prime. The hose will either have a brass cap or blue plastic plug on the end.
