Outdrive - DP-SM Serial 4112049663

Shifter cable broke on me on Saturday. I can see it's broken where it attaches to the outdrive. I spoke with my local shop and he said the outdrive has to come off to replace it. I looked in the book and it doesn't mention pulling the outdrive. Can someone confirm this? How difficult of a project is this really? He qouted me between $300-$400. sound fair?

Re: 7.4GI Shifter Cable Replacement

Difficulty depends on access to cable inside the boat.
The drive does not have to come off the boat. Just turn the engine to port for access to where the cable goes through the transom.
Getting the new cable through the hose will be the biggest problem. Sometimes it's easier to push the cable from the drive side to the engine side. Just be careful and not push the cable through the sidewall of the hose. I made a rounded end fitting that screwed on the end of the cable to help guide the cable without snagging the hose.

Thanks Don, I'm still debating on whether to do this one myself or save the head ache and just send it off.
