volvo penta 100 noise at uj

i have an out drive thats making a horrible noise at low rev.s is this normal, several mates have the same noise,the uint although old is new old stock never fitted to a boat before, my old unit i had fitted before made the same noise thats why ive replaced it, i need a scream!!
