Hi, I recently took my outdrive off volvo penta sx (5.7) and discovered alot of play between the gimbal housing and the suspension fork. I removed the lower bracket to check the steering shaft (or pin), the bushing was worn right through and some wear on both the gimbal housing, lower bracket and in the suspension fork. My question is, has anyone experianced this same situation? and is there any cheap solution other than replacing the entire gimbal housing, suspension fork and pin etc.? Is a small amount of wear OK, if I just replace the bushing and shaft. I am also considering machining to a slightly bigger size and pressing in a bushing to meet origional spec, or find an oversized shaft?

This is exactly the problem I'm having (slop in the steering shaft). Did you ever resolve it? I'd hate to shell out hundreds for a ring as well. Even thought of machining a larger pin too.
