i am looking to convert twin 145 a v/p's to electronic ignition & lose the point system . i think the motors are from 85 .does anyone know if there is an automotive distributor thats an easy swap ? i think it will need a remote coil to fit

you can buy a system that just screws on where the points used to be, hot spark I think. you just plug it into the existing coil

electronic spark timing, I think you can use auto electronic ignitions on boats because there is no sparks. now finding what kind of auto motor a 145a matches is another story

You have a Volvo engine, Automotive distributors are not ignitition protected and have the wrong advance curve.

Go with the Pertronix or hot spark conversion.

I did a similar conversion on a 1968 2.5 Mercruiser. It was a flying magnet setup. If you can figure out which distributor it is, then CARQUEST can get the conversion. Mine cost about $125, and took about 3 minutes to install.
