Ive got a 1995 5.0 Volvo Penta DP-C3 Replacing Shaft Baring. It does not have greese Zirt except one that is on what looks like steering arm. My shaft baring inside drive housing is bad. I was told after I remove 3 C clamps I could pull it straight out the back with little effort. I won't come out. I have a 7 pound slide hammer and with big 10" vise grips as tight as possible using copper as protection on splines I get about 3 hits before vise grips slip off. Tried hitting forward no success. Any suggestions before I button it back up with bad baring

Pull the engine, you were told wrong. The shaft and bearing assembly are pressed into the housing.

PS: Do not run it with a bad bearing. If the bearing locks up, it will destroy the housing, and they are a long way from cheap.
