1996 volvo sx cobra shift cable change

Hi all, just wondering if there are any tricks to changing the shift cable on this drive. Got it routed and hooked up fine, but it won't go into reverse full throtle, its like the cable don't have enough through. which way should the prop spin freely with the drive in forward gear?

If it won't go into reverse, then the cable is probably adjusted to far into forward.
If you put the cable in the correct holes in the control, there is enough throw.
