Hey everyone!

I know this question may be silly, but I have to ask.

I tried to buy an oil filter for this engine. So I cross referenced the automobile engine, and the books at Walmart only go back to 1989.

This engine is a 1983, can someone please help me with this.

I wanted to buy an extra heavy duty filter to catch any and all dirt, then after this engine runs for a little while, i wanted to change the oil again and put on a regular filter.

Please let me know your thoughts and thank you all for your help!!!

WIX 51307. Don't bother with trying to separate heavy duty from normal duty. Just stick with a WIX filter and you'll be fine. I believe NAPA carries them but most auto parts stores will order them for you.

Thanks for the reply!

Only WIX? How about Fram, or Purolator, or AC Delco, any reason for just a WIX?

I am not sure if Walmart carries WIX, but I will check.

Just wondering.

Thank you!

WIX is a high quality oil filter but you can use anything you want. If you go the the WIX web site, you should be able find a cross reference chart.

The closest NAPA to me is 12 miles away. That is why most of my stuff has to come from either Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, or Walmart.

Do they have quality filters that you all would recommend?

the difference in these two filters is the lenght. on most boats you must use the short filter .also the wix filter number he gave you will cross in the cross reference book to any brand but I agree that oil filters are a cheep investment compared to the price of a engine failure from a cheap made filter.

This engine has tons of room on both sides for what ever is needed. So is a longer oil filter better? I know it will take a bit more oil to make the crankcase full correct?

A slightly longer filter isn't going to make that much difference. The engine is almost 30 years old, and hard to tell how many different filters have been used over the years. Same with the oil, if you don't want to use what Volvo recommends, then pick what you want to use and use it. The fact is, if you change the oil every 100 hours or yearly (Which ever comes first) the oil probably won't even be dirty.

OK. Agreed. So what Fram or any other brand that you all know of, that Walmart carries, fits this engine?

Thank you.

I looked it up and I think this is right.

Either the Fram PH7328 or the AC-Delco PF2140

Thank you all for the help!
