1988 volvo 131 smoking bellow

I have a 1988 volvo 131 engine and penta outdrive,<br />I have added electrnic ignition.The boat runs fine<br />but the exhaust bellow starts smokeing after running a few minutes.Before I replaced ignition<br />the exhuast bellow smoked and ripped.I put the new on and it smokes.any ideas????

If when you say "Bellow", you are refering to item 18 in the image below, the reason they burn, smoke and burn holes in them is due to lack of water flow. Either you have a bad impeller, the raw water cooling system is not getting water to the impeller, or the manifold is plugged up, and not allowing water to get through the exhaust.<br />It's time to start checking some things since you have 2 of them going bad.<br /><br />

The smoke is white and it is part # 18 in diag.

You are now faced with finding the reason for no water flow. See my previous reply for possibilities. Do you have a service manual????

I do not have a manual.where is the impellar?<br />is part #1 or #8?what can I take loose to check<br />for water flow?

Please, don't take this wrong, but you really need to find a marine mechanic to fix your boat.
