I need to know the proper procedure on setting the ignition timing on my 1998 7.4GI. The book that I have says to connect a jumper on the lower far right two wires on the diagnostic harness, then set the base at 10 deg BTDC. My problem is when I do this and then remove the jumper, the timing goes to 0 deg and the engine sounds like it's laboring. I can set the timing on 10 deg without the jumper and the engine sounds fine. I thought that when I remove the jumper that the timing should advance from the base setting, not retard. I'm wondering if my knock module could be bad causing it to automatically retard when the jumper is removed. Thanks
