One question...is there a wire that needs to be disconnected from the distributor in order to set the timing correctly? I'm wondering because we're getting a slight rattle from the valve train at high rpms or is that normal?

This is actually my parents boat ive been working on. All I know off the top of my head is that it's a volvo 3.0 4 cyl and has electronic ignition with external coil. Has 2 wire connector from the distributor to the coil. Other connector port on distributor is sealed with sealant. I'll see if I can get that information this weekend.

Need an engine model or serial number, Volvo didn't use the 3.0L engine in the 80's.
