Volvo power steering pump

1999 Volvo Penta 7.4 GI
Serial - 4112049663
My power steering pump started leaking. 2 questions...It's a slow leak and I want to take the boat out tomorrow. As long as I watch it and make sure it doesn't get too low will I do any additional damage?
Also can I put a car pump in the replace it? Anybody no what to look for?

just replaced my pump on a 2001 Volvo SX 5.0 with one from the local auto parts store. Use a power steering pump removal/installation tool (most parts stores will loan you one) to remove the pump from the reservoir housing and re-install with new pump. The whole process took maybe 30 min. and the pumps are GM style.
