Hi
i have a 1985 vovlo/penta 130/270 and I need to rebuild the ELECTRONICS that control the outboard lift motor.

Any ideas who rebuilds these assemblies and / or where I can get reasonably prices parts to do so.
Specifically relays and the #26 part in the vovlo diagram which is a switch that a rod actuates for up/down.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!
I really need the help PLEASE !

Welcome aboard mustard, but you are going to need more information than "#26 part in the vovlo diagram" yu may want to link to the diagram.
Also look just above your first post. There is a link there for Volvo Parts. Have you looked there for parts yet? That is the official Volvo Penta online store.

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

Is this the diagram?

http://www.volvopentastore.com/Mechanical_Lift_Device_Aq_Drive_Unit_250_270_Mo_Xxx_87999_814121/dm/*******.633396254--**********.663483089--store_id.366--view_id.317532

26 is the trim limit switch.

Why do you have that old model in your 1985 boat?

typically yours would have something more like this

http://www.volvopentastore.com/Mechanical_Lift_Device_Aq_Drive_Unit_270_Moxxxx_88000_850381/dm/*******.633396254--**********.663483089--store_id.366--view_id.317290

#37 would be the limit switch in that diagram.

The later style had everything enclosed in a black box on top of the tilt mechanism.

Are you missing the entire mechanism or what?

BTW, welcome to Iboats.:)

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

Thanks for the replies so far.
it is the volvo penta diagram # 31752 and it is item # 26.
I looked at one volvo parts source and they did not even list that part as being for sale.
I also thought I may replace the relays while I am at it.
Rumour has it these relays can be had at radio shack, etc. buti am not so sure about the limit switch.
perhaps i can locate a used one in good condition??
I also thought there may be someone who rebuilds these units on an exchange basis?
Thanks

Here's the limit switch.

http://www.marinepartsexpress.com:8080/mpeCart/details.faces?productId=850710&Go.x=19&Go.y=18

Not sure on the relays because you haven't explained why you are referencing parts for a much older model than your 1985 boat. Clarify please!!

What "unit" are you looking for??? The entire lift mechanism??? If you want more help your going to have to get into more detail.

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

It is a 1985 houseboat, I have no idea when or what with the engine drive that was installed.
the rebuilt unit I am talking about is just the electrical lift control part(not the motor, gears, etc). it is covered by a black plastic cover and the parts inside are all coated/sealed with a white vinyl/plastic film.
To get at the switches /relays etc. you have to peel this film off. the black plastic cover slids over from the top like a cap.
The whole elec control assy slides on/off the motor housing as one unit.
My manual says it is a AQ130/270 init ( it is labeled chrysler/volvo)
serial Number is A015167240 or it may be AQ15167240.
I really appreciate all your help.
Thanks
Greg

Ok, that is good info.:)

Aq130's went out of production in 1977. I believe they were the last of the Volvo four cylinder motors that was raw water cooled. Meaning there is no heat exchanger, no antifreeze in the block cooled by sea water. There are plenty out there running strong.

If you have the black box on top of the tilt mechanism, I think you would be ordering parts from this diagram.

Does that look correct?

What makes you think the limit switch is bad?

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

Take a picture of your engine. The 130 is an OHV engine with a standard looking valve cover. I have a feeling you have an AQ151, which is an OHC engine with a much wider valve cover. That number you have is not a Volvo SN, not sure what it is.

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

Hi Guys

The diagram is definetly the # 317532 one, there is no box that the electronics sit in, only a balck plastic cover that slips over.
The engine is definetly an OHV as I have set the valve adjustment.

Part of the confusion MAY BE that this engine/leg is badged as a Chrysler first / Volvo second.

It has dual downdraft carbs and is identical in looks.etc to several other houseboats in our marina that have a simular drive system.

Obviously, the previous owner must have repowered for some reason, with an older motor!!

Thanks
again for all the Help!!!

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

Does anybody know if the newer (than mine!!) lift units (Complete) with the plastic box on top that the lift controls are in, will work as a drop in replacement for my older style lift assy???
Thanks

Re: Help !!! 130/270 Volvo Lift Motor Control

If you swapped the entire unit, Lift assembly, motor, etc, I think it would bolt right on. I'm not sure about the wiring however. The Black box would not work on your current lift because the upper housing is slightly different.
