Hi:

I just got a 2006 Regal 2000 with a 4.3gXI and an SX outdrive. In the hoizontal fin over the prop. there is a hole at the center rear with a plastic plug in it. The plug is kind of loose.

From the diagrams I found online, there is a trim-fin under there that I do not have, and the diagram shows either a screw or the plug.

So obviously, the screw is for when you have the fin, and the plug is for when you do not. Right?

What decides whether there is a fin ? The boat manufacturer?

With power steering, no trim tab (fin) manual steering you have the trim tab.

Boats without power steering would normally have a trim anode that can be adjusted to counteract prop torque.

If your boat has power steering, the fin is unnecessary and the manufacturer just plugs the hole for cosmetic reasons.
