Help Tip: If you have a question that has not been answered to your satisfaction in the archives, it is always best to start a new thread of your own. By starting your own thread, you will receive the maximum number of views by forum members.

Below are some additional forum policies in hopes of all iboats members will follow, Thank you.

1. Please do not reply to old topics or hijack existing topics. Old topics of a technical nature are like a library book, Please do not write in them.

2. Old topics should be considered archives and used for reference only. Please do not reply to them.

3. Do not take over someone elseís topic (aka hijack) with your own question, even if it is similar. If you have a question that has not been covered to your satisfaction in the archives, it is always best to start a new topic of your own.

4. If you have a question for the original poster (OP) and the topic is over 30 days old, send the OP a PM, he may not even visit the forums any longer, or may not notice your question in the old topic.

5. By starting your own topic, you will receive the maximum number of views by forum helpers that may not even notice your question when itís posted at the end of someone elseís topic. And those answers will be specific to your particular issue.

6. Please do not post to topics that have been inactive for more than 3 months unless you are the original poster. We have very active forums and any topic that remains inactive for that long should be considered "dead". It is especially confusing when there is an entirely new question posted to an old topic.

7. Posting at the end of any topic is considered to be hijacking the original posters topic which in turn subjects the topic to be closed if it continues to happen thus not making it fair to the original poster in the future had for some reason he/she needed to return for additional information or provide an update of the problem solved which is always welcomed within a reasonable amount of time frame.

8. Please note that you should see a red banner pop up near the bottom of each inactive topic asking you not to reply to old topics. The Red banner will read: Please note this topic has been inactive for 90 days. For the best results, please start a new topic.

Thank you all in advance for doing your part in helping iboats run a smooth ship.

  • Volvo Penta aq131a/275 ???

    Ok first can anyone tell me where I can actually find a full service manual for an aq131a/275 engine and outdrive. Don gave me a great link for the operators manual but its just not quite in depth enough. Unless someone feels like walking me through it. I want to start looking into changing the bellows and changing and the out drive oil before the warmer weather hits. I also need to find where I can find a replacement raw water filter. Thanks for everyones time in advance. any comments are always appreciated.

    Strainer.

    In this thread I had to replace my ujoints and intermediate bearings. I hope your bearings are good, and you can skip the engine removal part. It does cover removing the upper gear housing which is what you'll need to do to change the bellows and check the ujoints.

    Good Luck.

    I'm sure Don has the manual, He's probably working overtime this time of year.

      Hey thanks. Thats an expensive filter!!! As far as I know all bearings are good. Its an older boat so im not going to chance waiting to change things that can end up costing me big$$$$$. and thx again. Its to rain here in pa for the next couple days so ill start tackling it thursday. Sorry for the questions but my local reliable service and part shop is closing and the next closest dealer is 73 miles away.

        Manuals aren't a problem, but don't expect them to be a detailed "How To" guide. But if you can read between the lines and pay attention, most everything will be answered in the OEM manuals. Here are the links to them.

        Engine = http://www.4shared.com/account/file/...131151171.html

        Drive = http://www.4shared.com/account/file/...ve_manual.html

          By no means Don am I questioning you but it doesnt list the 275 drive. The 280 seems similar to mine so Im guessing I follow that one??

                Try this link. Click on Volvo Penta stern drives on the right side.

                If you look at the 275, according to the chart, the 275 has a 290 upper gear box and, although not stated, it has a 270 lower. I like to think of mine as a hybrid.

                There is no manual for that drive.

                The 280 manual Don gave you is the best for what we've got to work with. I've got the 270 manual as well and it is very limited.

                  Re: Volvo Penta aq131a/275 ???

                  There is no "275" manual. The only difference between the 275 and 280 are the lower housing. The gears and setup are identical to a 280 lower, or you could use the 270, the insides are the same. All the other information like the wiring on the mechanical lift, and are like the 280 and not the 270.

                  To change the bellows, all you have to do is remove the upper gear box, not the complete drive. Remember, DO NOT reuse orings, replace them.
