I have a brand new 2007 Larson 180 Sport with a 3.0 Volvo Penta SX. I noticed that the idle RPM at 155 degrees is 1100. It was shifting very hard into gear. I tried backing it down. Currently it is set at approx 850. This is just over the lowest setting it will tollerate w/o sputtering or stalling. The carb is a holly 2 barrel. Is this the right setting? All I did is adjust the Idle screw. Is there anything else to check? These Volvo drives come with a dipstick 14mm on the top of the drive. I checked it per the manual and it is full and clean. Gonna seal trial today to see if it helps. Thoughts?

Re: Volvo Penta Shifting HARD into gear.

That is idleing WAY too fast!!!
You are going to damage the outdrive if you keep shifting at those rpms.
Take it back to your dealer for some warranty repairs. It should idle nicely at 650 to 750 in fwd gear (In the water).
If it won't idle that low, then something is wrong.
