Hi Everyone,
I just finished having new exhaust manifolds and risers replaced on 2 Mercruiser 8.1s 496 inboards. The boat is a 40' Trojan and spends its life in salt water. The previous setup had aluminum manifolds which after 3 years had practically fallen apart (Mercury has since gone back to cast iron). We determined that one or two more outings would have resulted in raw water intrusion (close call). After seeing all of the corrosion first hand I would like to set the boat up with either a fresh water flush kit or the Volvo QL Neutra-Salt system.
Has anyone had any experience with either system, and if so, has it made any improvement on the life of the raw water components?
Any input would be very much appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Richard
