I have a 4.3 Gxi Volvo Penta with an SX/m 1.66 drive. Does anybody know if the new v6-240 will bolt on to the stern drive? I know I will probably have to get some new harnesses but I do not want to have to replace the drive.

Don't know for sure but it would be a dumb move on VP part to make a motor that cannot be used with their current drives. Be real easy to call the local dealer to verify

its still a V6, so it should fit. If your gaining more HP you could upsize the prop(s) although I despise the new electronic engines form a mechanics standpoint

they both us GM flywheel housing, so yes, it will bolt up

not sure I would spend the money vs fixing/replacing your existing 4.3. you can get a new long-block of your current motor for about $2k, even with new manifolds and elbows your under $3k. the new VP motor as a longtail is going to be about $18k

you will need to talk to your local dealer for bobtail pricing

here is info on current 4.3 http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...history-of-the-4-3-liter-with-casting-numbers

here is info on GM LS based 4.3 used today http://gmpowertrain.com/engines/docs/GMQD16CL760_LV1_Product PDF.pdf

all of GM's new motors can be viewed here

info from it being tested http://www.boattest.com/oem/337/engines/31500126/0/

If your going to repower with the newer Volvo why not go with the 280HP version

I would stay away from all that high tech stuff for marine use. Stick with a simple Vortec V6 long block, and a Holley 4bbl, unless you already have EFI. If the boat already has EFI which I'm thinking it does from the model # having an 'i' in it, then just re-use all EFI stuff from the original engine. You do NOT want an upgrade EFI system with cat converter exhaust, if you ever have to replace that exhaust it's like $3,000 per side. Insane.
