i have a 97 4.3gl set up & there does not appear to be any gasket for the outdrive other than the little o ring styled seal that goes around the water input hole. this is my 1st volvo set up of this era that i've ever worked on so im a little stumped.
the omc design had a gasket, the merc has a gasket, evn the old white volvo drive has a big o ring but not this one.

The pinion bearing carrier presses up against a rubber seal inside the bellows and keeps the water out.

Also you put some OMC/Bombardier grease on the lip of the bellows and the nose of the bearing carrier to make sure it seals. When you tighten the 6 nuts to pull in the drive it pushes the nose of the bearing carrier into the lip of the bellow.
