New Volvo Penta D2-40 with an extremely loud start

Recently we installed in our Rival 36 a new, right out of the box a 2017 Volvo Penta D2-40 diesel that has the following problem: The starter engages smoothly but when the engine fires up it starts with a very loud metallic bang resulting in a very pronounced vibration sounding like something is going to break. Is this normal operating procedure for either the D2-40, or D2-55 engines? The dealer and I have checked everything that we can think of and I am at wits end. Many thanks in advance for any help or insight as to the problem that any of you may able to provide.

Cheers, Chris

No, you have something broken

find it before you fire the motor again. Being a 2017, it has a warranty. get the dealer involved

Presumably it's not just the dry exhaust noise that these engines make before the cooling water starts flowing and quietens it all down ?
Failing this, advice above is sound and perhaps check for exhaust flow restrictions!
