Have some questions about winterization/maintenance:

The first is that the seloc manual says I should use Volvo penta grease such as triple guard grease. Is there any reason I can't just use the same automotive grease that I use on my trailer bearings as well as my vehicle ball joints and tie rod ends?

Lower unit specific grease is designed to work underwater and not wash away. I wouldn't skimp on the grease. You don't have to buy specific Volvo grease, Mercruiser grease will also work. Just make sure that it is outdrive specific.

OMC/BRP/Evinrude triple guard grease it great stuff. Stays on a prop shaft in salt water for a long time. Make sure to use the Volvo gear oil in the drive, to avoid problems.

Castrol also make a "Waterproof grease" called CL GREASE I have been using it for 30 plus years, it is still good after 6 months in salt water.
