Re-Finish an Outdrive?

Am looking to buy a boat that is a real beauty except the Volvo Penta outdrive has some corrosion from what seems to be sitting in the water for a long time. At least that's what the consensus says (3 boating friends and the Marina). Would you consider re-finishing it? Would any Marina do it? Should I just leave it? Any danger to leaving it? Would post pictures but says I'm not authorized to do so. Thanks!

You need to have 4 posts under your belt in order to post pictures and they need to be re-sized down to about 200 KB from what the camera does originally.

You can certainly re-finish the outdrive . . . as to whether you buy the boat or not would depend on how much corrosion has occurred. It removes metal from the outdrive casing and too much would be a bad thing.

It can be done! I went from this...

To this....

Had minor corrosion and anti-foul paint which was wearing that I couldn't stand.... It's a process to do it right so it lasts. Lots of work but rewarding when you can bring back a 20 year old outdrive...

Refinishing is relatively easy and is a DYI project. There are certain proper steps that need to be followed to make sure the paint holds but it can be done. I pull and refinish my outdrive every year while the boat is winterized.
