I just bought this boat with a Volvo Penta 5.0L GXi and everything seems to work great. I did notice at one point my tachometer gauge was over registering past 6K under WOT. I shouldnt be going over 5K (Max RPM), and everything sounded fine and was running fine. My question is how do I approach this problem? Could it be gauge releated, or the sender that actually inside the engine? Any idea how to test or replace if it is likely the sender?

Thanks

There is a setting on the back of the gauge to set the pulses per revolution, or something like that. Maybe it's on the wrong setting. Try tapping it also. Mine sometimes drifts up and when I tap it the RPMs drop back to normal.

great thanks. Any idea how to figure out what the pulse per rev should be?
