Can I use Penzoil Synthetic Outdrive oil instead of Volvo Penta gear oil in my Cobra SX Outdrive?
And that is the problem...most do which is why I don't use Mobil 1 gear oil anymore and only use Volvo. As long as it's the correct weight and does not include Limited Slip additives.
Its virtually the same crap. The second post in the thread had it right. As long as its the proper weight and has no LS additives (even thats debatable) You will be fine.Sorry, but saving less than $20 on gear oil that you change once a year on a $10,000 sterndrive isn't worth it.
I just order it from iBoats. They have a pretty good price on it.Its just hard to find locally in many places.
I have always used VP synthetic 75-90. THis year i cam accross Lucas marine full synthetic gear lube. It's 75w90 GL5 rated with No LS additive. I just filled the drive up the other day. probbaly wont be boating for another month. Should i be concerned about my decision to swap brands?
