New Holley Marine Avenger how can I connect this to the Volvo 33C Throttle cable?

I have a 1990 Volvo 570A (GM 350 block) with original Holley 4150 style carb with the stock volvo throttle cable. Carb was going downhill so instead of rebuild for $350 I decided go brand new for $450 so I bought a new from Holley Marine Avenger 4150 style carb 670 CFM.

My 33C cable appears to have twice as much throw and can't connect to the carb for idle. On the phone with Holley they say they are set up for a Mercruiser style cable, not the 33C from a Volvo and I should buy a new control box. (ha ha ha) I bought the $60 bracket and it's no different than the stock cable setup, it looks like my 33C cable is going to be too long no matter what. I have a Heim end (ball joint), but then my controls can only start at 1/3 throttle to about half throttle for WOT.

I sawed off the old volvo bracket with the little copper spinner block, but it doesn't seem to fit on the new carb throttle plate.

Anybody have any ideas how to get the 33C throttle cable working on the new Holley carb?

I thought about getting a piece of sheet metal and cutting out something like you see in this photo, but Hardin marine doesn't sell this piece highlighted by the red arrow. It looks like I might have to make my own makeshift version.

Thanks in advance!

Here is a photo of the original throttle bracket that goes on the old carb.

Unfortunately I am not allowed to upload attachments, the site cut out my photos.

Here are some photos.

Here is carb installed and throttle cable set at idle on control box. Notice how the end extends way last the carb throttle plate.

here is the old carb with the bracket.

a piece I saw at Hardin Marine in a photo, but cannot find anywhere online; it looks like this would extend my cable throw and attach to the carb possibly.

finally, I sawed off the bracket, this is what I have but the bolt holes don't line up on the carb plate and even drilling new ones looks like it will wobble and still not function.

I'm thinking of trying to make one out of some sheet metal to get by until I can find something to mount the cable to the carb and still be able to use it.

any thoughts?

Thanks for the tip Jimmbo, no, it doesn't have that piece. I wonder if I should hit the home depot bracket isle and try to hammer something into shape to extend the throttle bracket. I'm shocked Holley of all people would sell me a carb, then tell me to change out my controls to a Mercury throttle cable. I don't think it would even work on my controls, and I'd need some kind of mount. Seems silly to me.

your old holley is a 715cfm carb that is specific to volvo-penta marine 5.7 motors that was specified by volvo to use ford throttle connection, and can be rebuilt in about 20 minutes if your used to rebuilding carbs or about an hour if its your first time the rebuild kit is under $30 and a bucket of cleaner is about $25

sawing off parts is never going to work

Dont red-neck engineer anything with crap from home depot and dont hammer anything

your new carb simply needs the heim joint ( https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-3812g) on the end and a different anchor point (adjustable), along with a different location for the return spring to work with the morse cables on your volvo

however you will loose your coil mounting bracket that is on your current cable anchor bracket. you should be able to re-position those

you can use any of the following adjustable throttle brackets to reposition the anchor points:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1419 (does not include heim or springs)

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all54218 (includes return springs)

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-65045 (includes heim, no springs)

I have this bracket similar to the ones you suggested:
http://www.jegs.com/i/CSR/170/610R/10002/-1

and a heim end:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/QA1-AFR3S

I gave it a try using the furthest out position, but it didn't look like it was going to reach down to idleand about 1/3 throttle got me to WOT.

Maybe I'll give it another try and see if maybe I need to use another hole on the carb to mount the heim ball or figure out how to get less throw from the cable.

Thanks to all that helped. What I had to do was saw off the rivets from the old bracket (silver and copper photo above), then flatten the little tab that sticks out on the new carb throttle plate with a vice grip, then bolt it on the old bracket to the new carb plate. It's not a good fit up top, but a few washers made short work of it, and now my throttle connection is great just like the stock throttle. I would suggest this approach for anyone converting the stock Holley carb to a new marine avenger. Keep your old setup, no $50 brackets that won't help and heim ends; keep it like the original, save lots of headache!
