Hi. Stripped engine. Now down to the tricky bit.

1.do i set TDC before removing head?

2. Whats the next move? Do i just unbolt the valve cover then rocker arm? And does it come out in bits? Will valves start dropping out :/

3. On my tamd22, tdc was on the flywheel, and its was TDC all the time with the hole lined up, on these could it be on the wrong stroke to be TDC, i.e. 180 out??

Has anyone got tourqe settings for parts ive unbolted.

Cheers everyone

Ayuh,... Are ya sure the head gasket is bad,..??
How'd ya come to that conclusion,..??
#1,... It don't matter, so long as ya reset the timin' properly in the end,...
#2,.... Ya valve cover 1st, then the rockers, 'n push-rods,...
The valves are held in the head by the valve spring retainers,...
#3,....Donno 'bout yer other motor, but every 4 stroke motor's crankshaft see's Tdc every other revolution,...

I'd set the torque on the head bolts, as far as the accessorial stuff, I use my calibrated elbow for torque settin's,...

On diesels its easiest to get to TDC prior to pulling the motor apart. Depending on the injection pump, some times there is a set of alignment holes in the front gear train.

Bondo brings up a good point on the diesel. What brought you to the conclusion of a bad head gasket?
