In continuance of an older topic titled Volvo steering arm removal

I need to get the gimbal ring off because I need to sandblast and paint it. I screwed the three screws off at the bottom, bought the 9/16" bolt and a big washer according to the descriptions above. What happened to me was that I destroyed the threads on the 9/16 bolt, and it slips off. The steering arm has moved a bit however.
What am I doing wrong? Is there anything else besides the three bolts under the outdrive, which needs to be removed? Does anyhting needs to be removed from the inside?

Thanks for all help

I think that should be it.
I took mine off a year ago using that post as well, I didnt have any issues. It was tight at first, but it did pop off.
did you get the right type of thread 9/16 thread bolt?
and what grade was it? Maybe too soft?
Can you see what the threads are like on the yoke? Hopefully they are not stripped out.

when I removed mine, I also took off the swim platform. Made it easier to work on.

can you take some pics? Maybe just missing something.
