rusty carb "flap"

Quick question... I was winterizing, and when I went to dump the carb for the layup, the "flap" (I'm sure that's a technical name) was stuck open. It was due to some rust. I actually noticed towards the end of the season a little trouble starting up, and this appears to have been my problem.
Anyways, I cleaned it up the best I could (as pictured), and it opens and closes with ease now. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or experience with this? Is there anything I can put on the flap to prevent this from corroding again? I dont want anything like paint chips flaking into the carb, so I don't think paint would be the option.

that is the choke

unfortunately the zinc plating is gone, so it will corrode again. you can try boeshield or fluidfilm withich will slow the corrosion from coming back.

short of completely removing the rust and re-plating or replacing the choke plate with new, you will be dealing with corrosion.
