Video - Engaging Volvo Penta 275 Without a Shift Cable - Am I doing this right?

Watch the video below to see me try to engage the outdrive. My shift cable is bad, and I bought the boat with the lower unit of the outdrive unnatached. I assumed I could just bolt it on and it would engage, but it doesn't appear to be working. Any thoughts?

Flipping the switch should engage the drive.
Did you install the splined sleeve that goes on the end of splined shaft? Have downloaded a factory workshop manual. Also I'd recommend downloading the parts diagrams for the upper gear box, intermediate housing, lower gear unit and connecting componets. These parts diagrams shows how everything goes together.

You were right. I was missing the sleeve. There was one stuck on the old outdrive, so I thought it was a one piece unit, so I didn't bother looking at the new one before I installed it.
