I've searched some old threads and believe I may have found the correct spark plugs for my 2005 Volvo Penta 5.0 GL-E, but hoping someone can confirm.

It sounds like ACDelco may have been changing some things around in past years with part numbers and plug type. But I see that currently the 41-993 part is an iridium plug. I saw Don S. mentioned in a post that this is the type of plug used in fuel injected models. Since mine is a carb, I'm wondering if using an iridium plug would pose any problems?

Is anyone able to confirm if this is the correct part for my application?

Many thanks

Looking up your engine model on the Volvo site, It recommended new part number 21467472 (original number was 3858996 = Champions) which looking up the part number on places like EBay, it showing the latest AC-Delco part number to be 41-101 which at one point in time there was a crossover number to the AC-Delco 41-993 which all were Iridiums that need to be gapped at 0.060. If you decide to go to a standard type plug then the gap would go down to 0.045.

Though it's from Mercruiser, here's a good general guideline for this situation,
2006-03 AUGUST 2006:
Follow these guidelines for the correct spark plugs for carbureted MerCruiser engines: a. MerCruiser 4.3L, 5.0L, and 5.7L carbureted engines are shipped new with platinum AC 41-932 (P/N 33-884019) spark plugs, soon to be superseded by AC 41-993 (P/N 33-884019001). b. The recommended service replacement spark plugs for these engines are non-platinum AC MR43LTS (P/N 33-884019) or NGK BPR6EFS (P/N 33-816336). c. MerCruiser carbureted engines require a spark plug gap of 1.14 mm (0.045 in.). d. Mercury platinum spark plugs have a gap setting of 1.5 mm (0.060 in.). To reduce the possibility of installing the platinum spark plugs with the incorrect spark plug gap, the non-platinum spark plug is the recommended service replacement. e. The use of AC 41-932 (P/N 33-884019) or AC 41-993 (P/N 33-884019001) platinum spark plugs in a MerCruiser 4.3L, 5.0L, or 5.7L carbureted engine is acceptable if the spark plug gap is set at 1.14 mm (0.045 in.). ? Always check the spark plug gap before installing any new spark plug.

Here will be your parts catalog for your engine model if needed, http://www.volvopentastore.com/Mari...on_id.147647319--store_id.366--view_id.765067

Hope this helps, good luck.

If you wish to spend big $$ then put in the Iridiums or what ever they are now. Spark plugs rarely "wear out" in a boat as most folks change them way to often or you'll notice a bit of corrosion on them and yank them. You can't go wrong with AC -MR43LTS in your application and gapped to .045 which is very close to what they're at out of the box. Cost around $2.25 each. Happy Boating..
