Hello out there, Thanks for all the previous help.

I have a 1986 25' Bayliner Command Bridge with DP-A Drive
It has a good running 350 in it now, but it is consuming oil at 3400 cruise rpm - I suspect rings due to a internally leaking Quadrajet carburetor.

Will this drive stand up to the increased torque of a more powerful 5.7 330hp Vortec replacement motor?

Did they ever put a bigger motor behind this DP-A Drive? What is a DP-A's horsepower rating ?

The drive is in great condition with stronger drive shaft yokes and u-joints.

I just finished going through my DP-A with a master mechanic. When we were done he was really impressed with the condition and upgrades we made.
Just about anything that could be unbolted and replaced was replaced. Total parts bill was about $1500
Not a trace of corrosion was found anywhere.

I thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge, Roy

Yes you will be fine.
DP-A's came behind 7.4L and diesels.

your 86 should be a DP290 as the DP A came out in late 88, early 89 unless it was replaced along the way.

yes, it will handle everything a 383 will throw at it.
