Chryler 9.9 water pump

I have a 9.9 Chrysler It may be 1979
I test ran it the other day and did not see a stream of water coming from the exhaust ports. I'm not sure if it's supposed to send a column of water from them or not


Also does the water coming out automatic or is there a thermostat that must allow for flow
Any advice would be great

Chrysler got out of the out board business in 84 and those were Sea Kings which the 9.9 was first made in 1980. I always replace the impellor first thing when I get an outboard reguardless. Its the first thing to come apart and leave you stranded and tear up a motor.
