This weekend I picked up a package deal that included 3, 5HP motors including a 1946 or 48 Sea King (Blue), a 1951 Sea King (Red), and a 1956 Buccaneer Gale (Orange).

I have no background on the 1946. The guy got it for free and has never seen it run. Thinking about parting this one out.

The red one ran in the past although its missing the handle and the top cover it appears? or is this the kind you have to hook up the rope on each time?

The orange one ran 4 years ago, so this one should be able to get up and running with some seals and a water pump (hopefully).

Anyway, without knowing any more about these, any suggestions at this point of where I should go with them?

Thanks!

Orange Buccaneers were from the 1961 era, not 1956. 1956 was brown/bronze with green trim. 1961 had a fiberglass cowling and were excellent motors. I'm rebuilding one right now. The 1951 should have a recoil starter. Does it have neutral shift?

They all are good dependable motors if in decent shape, but probably need some work. That's to be expected, right?

The model number off the Buccaneer is 5S12B. when I looked it up it was a 1956, no?

Well yes that number is a 1956 "Standard" 5hp, no gearshift. But I don't know how yours got painted orange. I'm posting a link to a 1955 Deluxe, but should be the same color of brown.

P.S., I was working in a Buccaneer dealer's shop when your motor was built.

The maroon motor you posted has a larger silver ring around the casing than my orange one. Again, I'm just going off the model number on the unit. Could this top have been swapped out perhaps?

If you google 1961 buccaneer this is the picture that shows up. I wonder if someone painted motor at some point?

Well, yes that is a 1961 Buccaneer you just posted. But that in no way resembles a 5S12B

Can you post a picture of yours and end some of this confusion?

Well ok, I misunderstood. If that is your motor, you do not have a 5S12B. I don't know who put that number on it, or why.

My model number must be wrong. I'm pretty sure my "orange" painted motor is a 1953, but has the wrong model plate on it. Weird. I believe the stock color was maroon.
