I was recently bought an older "ted Williams" outboard. model # 217-5949-0 and serial # 199174. i'm trying to find out the correct fuel mixture and the year of this motor. also, was wondering if it is air cooled or has a water pump? doupt that this matters, but it does have a reverse gear

Lots of Ted Williams talk on the "other outboard brands" forum.

Re: 7.5 hp ted williams outboard

dscsr, I think Ted Williams motors were made by different companies. The one I had (mid-70s) was air-cooled, made by Tecumseh. Pull the cowling and have a look. if you see cooling fins like on a lawnmower, it is air-cooled. If I remember correctly, I had neutral and in-gear gearshift , and the thing turned 180* for reverse.

Its a 1973 7.5 HP water cooled, 50:1. If it was air cooled you could tell just by looking at it....lots of fins like a lawnmower.

It is an Eska and it has an aircooled Tecumseh power head and a water cooled leg.
You may note fins on the flywheel and on the cylinder of the power head.
If you put this in the other outboards forum you will find lots of help.
