I purchased a 1948 Martin 60. I took the carb apart cleaned it changed plugs cleaned the tank it started on first pull for about 5 seconds. My question is what is the best way to set the screws on the carb to start it and run it for awhile...?

Since it started right up, you have the needles close enough for a preliminary setting. Now you have to get it on a boat, on the lake, to get them "right". Run at full throttle and adjust the high speed needle for best operation, then slow down to idle and do the same with the slow speed needle. Don't try t make it more complicated than it is.
