Hello everyone.

Im looking for a source for parts for a 1961 Gale GG18744 40 horse. Thanks in advance for any help.

GG-18744A is a 1961, 18744B is a 1962. You get parts from your friendly Evinrude dealer. But he won't be very friendly if you don't go in armed with the part numbers, because he probably doesn't have the book. iboats has commonly needed service parts such as carburetor, ignition, water pump, etc.

Thanks very much for the help! I found the service manual here on iBoats and its on its way. The gear shifter lever is broken off, one half attached to the motor and the other to the shift linkage cable. Other than that everything else looks to be in great shape.

I may have a shift handle for you. I built a 1960 35hp from two parts motors and still have the mid from the parts motor. I think the shift handle was still intact on it... Will check if interested.

The outboards made by Gale and marketed by Montgomery Ward were brand named Sea King. Gale also made outboards under other store brand names as well as the Gale and Buccaneer brands. Please use the correct brand name along with the model number to avoid possible mistakes.

There were later Sea King outboards made by other (West Bend, Chrysler, and others) makers. Model numbers are the key to identifying the maker.
