Sears Ted Williams '68 7.5HP, model 574.55930 - ultra low profile and shallow running lower unit

Had it running like a sewing machine, then it sat idle for a month - during which time it decided to NOT be so easy-to-start-and-run friendly.

Bit the bullet and pulled the flywheel & stator plate to gain access to remove the carb with the intention of doing a thorough cleaning job. Once I got the carb out, after inventing a few new colorful expressions of frustration, I was able to lift out the reed valve assembly.

Lotsa crud & corrosion

Corrosion cancer on one of the reed sets

I've already got a couple of feelers out looking for a replacement, but I'm not optimistic, sooooo....

FIELD ENGINEERING TIME!

How about fabricating one out of shim stock?

Brass (which I have) -vs- stainless steel (which I don't have).

I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks

Gonna be really hard to duplicate the OEM reeds flex and durability, Jim.

I would try the outboard salvage yards for a good used assembly. Salvage yards are listed in the Engine FAQs files.
