I would really appreciate any input on a Montgomery Ward Sea King #XTV-50475A. It's a 7.5 HP motor - NEVER USED (apparently).

We just bought a 12' "Porta-Bote" for use in lakes. The motor for this boat should be a max of 57lbs, so this Sea King might be perfect. The question is whether buying an old motor - even if never used - would be smart for a novice. My main questions:
- What year is this motor?
- What would you pay for it? (The asking price is $350 obo)
- Are parts and repair a challenge for an older motor like this?
- Would such a motor probably be reliable?
Thanks for the input!

- What year is this motor?

By searching this forum I get that its a 1976 http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=185052
the nunber you posted is the type no.

- What would you pay for it?
depending on how bad I wanted it but genrally speaking would rather have it given to me, but if was a cherry and had been in grandpa's closet since new 350 might be a good price, however a "Dependable Eska" would be cheaper, much more reliable and have much better parts support.

youbetcha, and you wil pay to play http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/

- Would such a motor probably be reliable?

No doubt about it, well tuned it will run like top and bring you great joy.
