Sears model 217.58870 can be found here:
<http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/searsid.htm>

If it's locking up there are 2 possibilities:

Overheating because of cooling inadequacies. (probably a defective or inoperable waterpump)

Insufficient lubrication.

Looking at the link above you will discover that the engineers who designed the engine specified that it required 1 part of oil to 24 parts of gasoline. You most likely either used the now common 50 to 1 mix or took the recommendation for mix on the container of oil you used. Both being serious mistakes.

If it is now free you may still be able to get some use from it by repairing the cooling system and using the PROPER amount of lubrication for the requirements of the engine design.

Certified Parts <http://www.certifiedpartscorp.com/> purchased all remaining rights and parts for both Eska (the actual maker of your outboard) and Tecumseh who manufactured the engine itself. As such they are the primary source for parts for both.

There are literally thousands of threads on repairing defunct Eskas on this board. Review them!

I called certified regarding rod bearings and they directed me to discount marine who told me a bearing house was my best shot.

When I order internal tecumseh parts or gaskets I like http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecumseh&mh=19,23 although nobody has my bearings.

Still Looking for number 66 :(
