We just bought a 50 HP - 1964 Sea King. The previous owner could not remember the gas/oil mixture. In addition, several sites we've checked give conflicting mixture amounts.

If someone happens to know (for certain) the mixture amount, that would be incredible helpful!!! Thank You!

Here's some additional info:

1. It's a 2 cylinder
2. We believe this Montgomery Ward Sea King was made by Chrysler. (model number VWB-19092)

Also, do older motor run better with higher octane gas or is regular ok?

And should I consider purchasing any fuel additives (besides the oil) that would help performance or longevity? (and with 'performace' I mean -running smoothly- than really about -speed-).

Thanks in advance!!!

That is, indeed, a Chrysler made outboard.

Best fuel mix is 1 pint of TC-W3 rated outboard oil and 6 gallons of 87 octane unleaded regular gas. There is no benefit to higher octane fuel. That is 48:1, what we usually call 50:1.

SeaFoam is a good additive to help keep your engine clean, and Sta-Bil extends its useful life and reduces creation of varnish.

To nitpick a 64/65 would be a West Bend Became Chrysler in 66.
The same animal. They do caution in my aftermarket service manual when running 50:1 be carefull that idle mixture is adjusted so any error is toward rich and high speed jets are selected carefully.sea level to 2,500 .096, 2500-5,000 .088, 5,000-7,500.080, 7,500-10,000 .076.

Based on that, it sounds like 40:1 would be a good idea. A little more smoke, and a lot more peace of mind, I'd think. I'd rather err on the side of too much oil than too little. Internal parts are going to be tough to find, so why risk them.

Yup. West Bend. My bad, though I doubt that it matters much.
