Next time you stop to fish try turning your fuel petcock/valve off to prevent gas from seeping past carb and flooding motor at start-up....I do this on my old 3HP Tanaka....seems like maybe moving around in the canoe while fishing may jiggle that float/needle just enough to cause fuel leak-by and a fuel wet spark plug while trying to re-start the motor....
