I got an old outboard for free today. Info is as follows on ID tag:
Clinton Machine Company
Clinton, Michigan. USA
Model No. J7
Serial# 41147
Type# 10-13-7-0-4-5
Also on upper motor housing is the # 700874.
2 stroke aircooled

It is complete, looks to be sitting a long time, 2 blad prop., motor turns over when you turn prop, pull start(that seems to need new return spring) choke knob(lean, etc.), slow/med/fast speed lever, snap down tiller, 1 cylinder, and weighs maybe 30 lbs. Guessing I'd say 5-9 hp. Will get dig pics next week. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks, Heinz

Re: Got old Clinton outboard, what year/value etc?

My manual covers 60-72 doesnt list a J7
close as I can come is J5 or J9 manual is vague about year J9 built from 60-68 J5 65-67 both rated at 5hp.J700 listed in 70-71 7hp.
J5&J9 are 5.76 cu. in. J700 7.75 cu. in.
J5&J9 use J12C plugs @.025.All others are listed using CJ8 Dont know new number for that.
Point gap is .020.These motors are all very similar with aircooled power head and water
cooled exhaust leg.
Bobber1@cox.net may be able to help further,
former dealer.
