Hi I'm new to the group and have a quick question about a 1959 sea king electric start 35hp made by Gale for Montgomery wards. I recently picked up this motor and controls cheaply. I did a compression check on both holes 160 / 165. I did this check with the motor on a stand without the wiring cable connected. My question is when I want to try and start it does the wiring plug need to be connected with the key turned on. Or can it be started without it. By pulling the rope or jumping the starter wire? Thank you for any info given for this.
