Just picked up another one of these was wondering should there be any up and down play in drive shaft , I noticed this at what they call the matched gear set I had apart appears not to be pumping any water (bought a new rotor should be here shortly) the pinion gear also moves on the drive shaft? Any help appreciated.

Drive shaft or prop shaft? Up and down in the drive shaft, yes. Up and down on the prop shaft, relative to amount of wear. Up and down on the pinion? Normal. The new pump rotor should take care of it.
