Impeller blade question

Let's say I have an obsolete outboard that has a 10 blade impeller. Would a 6 or 8 blade impeller suffice? I'm assuming if it has less blades but they may be thicker then if the volume of all the blades is equal the pressure should be close to equal. Right?...maybe?... I'm looking for a long term solution for bearcat 55 impellers. I can find the right diameter and thickness but not fin counts. Or the fins and diameter are the same but the thickness is off. There's another close one I'd have to drill the shaft from 1/2 to 5/8"

I think you would do fine with less blades as long as the impeller is the same size.If your motor is obsolete, that means the impeller design is probably also an obsolete design.New impeller design should do the same job.Just make note of the idle and running temps for piece of mind.Charlie
