need help with Hiawatha 5 hp

I believe you need to get the lubriplate out of the lower unit.

Why? It requires a thick lubricant.. is there a certain position in which that gear shift mechanism needs to be in? It can be threaded up or down to change the position of height. Does the lower end have to be in water just to get it to turn over?? This is driving me crazy lol

Main problem is something is hold it tight so that it won't pull to start freely..
